Glitterbuzzstyle (GBS): What aspects of your job do you love best?

Tarek Abbas: As a makeup artist, the aspect I love the most about my job is being able to make a woman feel and look more beautiful.

GBS: I love your work on Arlenis Sosa’s at "The Model As Muse: Embodying Fashion" Costume Institute Gala. How did you achieve that fabulous look?

Tarek Abbas: To create Arlenis Sosa’s look for the 2009 Met Ball, I lined Le Crayon Khôl in Black Ebony on the upper lash line and followed with Le Stylo Waterproof in Noir, smudging it on the lower lashes. I added Color Design Eyeshadow in Kitten Heel, a shimmery pink shade, to the eyelid. I applied Lancôme Ôscillation Mascara in black to create a faux-lash effect. For a high-shine pout, I lined the lips with Le Lipstique in Amandelle and topped it with La Laque Fever in Neutral Current, a pretty, sparkling, translucent shade.

GBS: What are the differences between applying makeup on models and on real women.

Tarek Abbas:The difference between applying makeup on models verses real women is that on models, I create looks for an event or the runway. On real women, I work with them to create everyday looks that compliment their personal beauty.

GBS: Who was your favorite celebrity to work with? And why?

Tarek Abbas: My favorite celebrity to work with has to be Eva Longoria. She is a very delightful individual with extreme beauty inside and out. I was recently in San Antonio and she came to the Lancôme counter unannounced and was so down to earth that her celebrity status never phases her. She is amazing.

GBS: What do you think is the biggest beauty misconception that women have when it comes to makeup?

Tarek Abbas: The biggest beauty misconception that women have surrounds both eye and lip liners. Women apply liners without blending or smudging which gives a harsh edge. The key is to blend in order to achieve a better eye and lip shape.

GBS: What do you think are best/worst trends in the makeup / skin care industry right now?

Tarek Abbas: One of the best trends in skin care right now is that women are more informed than ever. They know what they want, and are smart about an everyday routine. For makeup, women used to think “less is more.” Today women achieve their looks, whether bold or natural, with a wide variety of colors and tools that are more accessible to them. The worst trend in the industry right now is the misconception of creating a bold look without blending. This look is overwhelming and too dramatic. For example, the lip pencil shouldn't be darker than the lipstick. The color needs to be a blendable color in order to avoid a harsh line around the lips. The key is to blend, blend, blend!

GBS: What are the three "must-have" products for every woman's make-up bag?

Tarek Abbas: My top three “must have” products for a woman are:

1. Pressed powder
2. Water-resistant mascara
3. Lip gloss

My personal favorites are: Lancôme Dual Finish powder, Lancôme Ôscillation Water-Resistant Mascara, and Lancôme La Laque Fever

GBS:

Would you share some of your future goals, your life motto, any words of wisdom that get you by in life and professional career?

Tarek Abbas: Happiness and honesty have been my words of wisdom. In my career loyalty has been my driving force. I always express myself artistically and collaborate with those around me to achieve the best outcome.
GlitterBuzzStyle would like to thank Lancome National Makeup Artist Tarek Abbas for participating in this interview. Special thanks to Sophie Duron for supporting GBS.
