NYFW: Nina Skarra Spring 2013

The best way I could describe arriving at Lincoln Center on Saturday afternoon was the awing moment when "Hunger Games" heroine Katniss Everdeen arrived at the fashion-forward Capitol for the first time. Mind blowing fashion? (check). Folks with awesomely styled blue hair? Oh yeah that too! Celeb encounter? Was practically within touching distance of Lil'Kim and Angela Simmons ( Kim looked at me for a bit...hopefully she was thinking good thoughts).

Nina Skarra was everything I hoped my first Fashion Week designer would be as these San Tropez and Gatsby inspired designs nearly floated down the runway in the form of  light airy-pastels, whites and deep blues. From breathtaking gowns a la Grace Kelly to pantsuits fit for Daisy Buchanan (yes, another Gatsby reference). With clothes so elegant there is absolutely no question why royalty (Skarra has outfitted the Crown Princess of Norway) would flock to such designs, even rap royalty like Lil' Kim seemed impressed.

The show's beauty looks were equally impressive. Bold brows, apricot cheeks and soft lips dominated the runway while hair (big shout out to stylist Nedjetti Harvey) was kept sleek but flowed beautifully and ethereally like the mermaids of our childhood. Big thanks to Chastity for getting my feet wet inside the real world of fashion, I smell an addiction coming. For more on the delicious visual feast indulge in the pictures below!
